Ovation wanted

Message par Edouard » 22 Jan 2007 23:21

Bain moi je trouve ça pas mal du tout !
Assez planant, sympa quoi !

Hi Barata,
With your budget, you can find some models (like Ovation Legend, like in the movie) but not new. You will have to buy a second hand guitar. But you can find some nice models in this price.
The only problem is to find them, especially in Europe where prices are usually higher than in the USA.
Are you OK with dealing on eBay ?

Hi Barata !
Cyril and Edouard gave you good advice.
I also think best option is looking on eBay or Ovation Fan Club (www.ovationfanclub.com) websites, due to availability and lower prices than in Europe. Or be patient, you perhaps will find a good opportunity here. But you just don't buy a guitar for its price, you have to know what you want to buy, nylon or steel, rosette or epaulets, deep, mid, or shallow bowl, cutaway or not ... What do you want, can you help us help you ??

PS: I have an Elite 1868 for sale but price is higher than your budget ....

I'm just looking for second hand guitars. Unfortunatly the prices in Europe are quite high!
Do you think that 420 euros (without shipping costs) for an Ovation balladeer 1661 with case is expensive?
Thank you!

I would be glad to make deal with someone in this forum ;)

It could be a good deal for that model.
But if you speak about the link I posted to you (1661 on eBay), I don't speak very well german (like english  ), so be carefull of the health of the guitar, pictures are not very good to see if it is OK or not !

Hi again and i wanna thank everybody that is healping me with my choice!

I want an Ovation with steel string, with cutway. I prefer rosette to epaulets.

The ovation that i was talking about was shown by Edouard.
I didn't talking with the seller yet, but i was thinking in effort 420€!

So Barata, the 1661 Edouard found on eBay could be just nice for you and your budget range.
Don't hesitate to contact the dealer, ask for more photographs and if ok, don't hesitate to place your maximum bid (500-550) in the 5-10 remainning second, you probably will win it for a lower price.
I wish you good luck !!!

Arnaud is right on the way to get it for a good price.
The add says about some dings due to normal play, nothing to worry about I believe. It seems OK to me but ask for some closer pictures we never know. The Custom Legend will certainly climb higher I fear which would be quite normal. The Elite is also a good bargain if you can get it at this price (I am also afraid it might climb quite higher at the latest moment but dare try !!).

I wish you good luck and keep us posted !!!

Extracted from the official Ovation site : www.ovationguitars.com

Legend :
6 String Acoustic/Electric
Body Type: Deep Bowl : depends on the model
Top: AA Solid Sitka Spruce
Bracing: Ovation
Scale Length: 25 1/4"
Scale:
Fretboard: Deluxe Ebony
Fret Inlay: Dots/Diamonds
Bridge: Walnut
Rosette: Oak Leaf Design

Balladeer :

6 String Acoustic/Electric
Body Type: Deep Bowl : depends on the model
Top: A Grade Solid Spruce
Bracing: Ovation
Scale Length: 25 1/4"
Scale:
Fretboard: Rosewood

The difference is mainly in the woods used for the top and the electronics used as well as the finish. But there are plenty of ovation specialists here who will certainly tell you more on this..

An other question for you guys!
The seller from the Balladeer said that his guitar don't have a serial number, so inside the sound hole it only have the label.

cité:
"All Instruments made by "KAMAN" only number. Serial number come later. KAMAN
was the first has made ovations."

Is this right? It should have a 6 digits serial, shouln't it?
Thank you =)

It's wrong, every guitar has its seial number.
Sometimes, it is on the back of the head.
Sometimes it is on the label inside the bowl.
Sometimes, it is on a small white sticker inside the bowl near the neck attachement.
